If there's anything possibly worse than unrequited love...

It's gotta be the reason for such an unfortunate event. Being tantalized has got to hurt more, to have something desirable within sight, but so painfully out of reach.

Basically what I'm talking about is when two people have liked each other at one time or another, but never at the same time. It's a great topic for a sitcom ep, but it's actually really sad. There's no pretending the feelings, so that kind of happiness was in sight, but the fact that it's not a relationship or some kind of blissful reciprocity is what makes it out of reach.

Maybe it's not as bad as knowing a long time ago that there's no chance at all, no chance to raise spirits for a higher-impact fall. As screwy as this is, it's another lesson in "could be worse."
